Interesting insights into a writer's life and thoughtsThis is not the sort of book you will finish reading and say, "That was one of the great reading experiences of my life." The pleasures here are not earth-shaking or mind-blowing. But there are pleasures here, quite a few. The book reads like a journal, because many times Mathews wrote about what was going on in his life (a few people who were close to him had died just before he began the exercises), and the entries which stick to his everyday life can become dull and repetitive for a reader -- its when Mathews lets his imagination wander, or puts down some of his ideas about writing, that these pages really come alive.
The book is highly readable, whether you know Mathews's other work or not, because the exercises are short and the language clear. It's easy enough to skip around in the book, reading it on different days, looking for entries which appeal to whatever mood you happen to be in at the moment. Reading them in order produces a certain feeling of intimacy with the author, though, and the book is oddly moving by the end.

This is a very good book to learn how to calculate

A review by manufacturer of surgical cotton in Indiasub.: REVIEW OF "MEDICAL AND HYGIENE TEXTILE PRODUCTION - A handbook" - by Allison Mathews and Martin Hardingham
R E V I E W
I am owner of manufacturing unit in India engaged in the business of Absorbent Cotton Wool since 1974. I have completed my graduation in Textile Technology and I am Associate member of The Textile Institute, Manchester. I bought this book in the year 1995 only. The authors have covered all the aspects of manufacturing of Surgical Cotton, Bandages, Gauge, and Sanitary Napkins etc. They have explained processes, testing methods, production planning methods, project setting methods and equipment supplier addresses. The book has been neatly printed and illustrated with diagrams. The authors have maintained clarity, brevity and simplicity in explaining the terminology involved. Perhaps, this is the only book ever written on this subject. Stress has been put upon application of manufacturing process in developing countries. Besides these, non-manufacturing aspects like pollution, labour etc. have also been touched. I am proud to be owner of this book in my library.

Good Source, but rather boring

Erudite and unusual
